Lady Mustangs defeat Geneva, Midlakes

The Penn Yan Mustang girl’s lacrosse squad continued their winning ways last week, notching two more Finger Lakes League wins.

On Monday in Penn Yan at Mustang Field, the Lady Mustangs scored an exciting 11-9 win in overtime over longtime rival Geneva. The two teams battled to a 9-9 draw after regulation time, and needed a little bonus action to determine a winner.  

The Penn Yan laxers picked up goals from Natalie Wagaman and Hannah Christensen in the extra stanzas, while holding Geneva scoreless to bring home the big win.    

Jennifer Burt tallied four goals, and added two assists to pace the Mustang attack. Natalie Wagaman added three goals and two assists, Christina Brennan, Hannah Christensen, Cara Elias, and Samantha Mashewske also scored goals for Penn Yan. Heather Lee also added an assist. Meg Hopkins was once again strong in goal for Penn Yan, registering nine saves.

On Wednesday, the Lady Mustangs hit the road and journeyed to Phelps for an encounter with the Screaming Eagles of Midlakes. The Orange and Blue forces once again prevailed, walking off with a neat 8-4 win over their hosts. Penn Yan jumped out to a 6-3 first half lead. The second half was closely contested, with the Mustangs walking off the field after the final horn with the 8-4 Finger Lakes League win. Cara Elias tallied four goals to lead the Lady Mustang scoring barrage.  

Natalie Wagaman added two goals and an assist as did Jennifer Burt.  Peyton Pallar also added a goal. Meg Hopkins had a huge afternoon in goal for Penn Yan (6-1), recording 15 saves.
