Softball: Penn Yan routs Midlakes in six innings
The softball jauggernaut from Penn Yan rolled over Finger Lakes East for Midlakes 20-4 in a game called after six innings because of the mercy rule.
The visiting Mustang girls went to Phelps with their hitting shoes on for this final contest before their spring break trip to South Carolina. The Lady Mustangs jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings. Then, a nine-run explosion in the fourth inning put this game out of reach for the hometown Eagles.
Penn Yan’s talented slugger Rachel Roddenbery rocketed a three-run homer to pace the Mustang onslaught. Kate Disbrow went 3-for-4, Leah Perry 3-for-5, and Chelsie Travis 2- for-4 with four RBI’s for the Orange and Blue.
Penn Yan pounded out 17 hits in this contest. With the win, the Lady Mustangs improved their early season mark to 3-0. They will be competing in the annual Myrtle Beach Tournament this week in Sourth Carolina over their spring break, and return to Finger Lakes action next week.
Red Jacket 27 Dundee 1
In other local high school softball action, Red Jacket crushed Dundee 27-1 in a shortened five inning game played in Dundee on Tuesday. The Lady Scots were no-hit in this contest.
South Seneca 15 Dundee 14
On Thursday afternoon in Ovid, South Seneca edged the Dundee Lady Scots 15-14 in a Finger Lakes West contest. Dundee fell behind early in this game, but rallied late. The Lady Scots scored three runs in the seventh inning to pull within one run. That would be as close as they would get.
Romulus 12 Dundee 8
The next afternoon in Romulus, Dundee suffered a 12-8 loss to the hometown Lady Warriors. Haley Brown had 2 hits for the Lady Scots in this contest. Dundee falls to 0-4 in the Finger Lakes West.
