Penn Yan senior, #22 Cara Elias shoots goal #2 for Penn Yan with 6:36 left in the first half.

The Penn Yan Lady Mustang lacrosse team entertained Carthage of Section III on Thursday, April 21 at Mustang Field.

The North Country visitors dominated in the first half, racing to a 6-2 first half lead.  The sluggish start would come back to plague the hometown Mustangs later on.  Penn Yan fought back in the second half playing the talented Carthage team even.  Both teams notched six goals in the second half.  But that would be as close as the hometown laxers would get in this contest.  Carthage walked off with a 12-8 victory.

Penn Yan eighth grader Samantha Mashewske tallied three goals to pace the Mustangs offensively.

Natalie Wagaman added two goals while Jennifer Burt and Cara Elias contributed one goal and one assist each to the Penn Yan scoring cause.

Christina Brennan rounded out the Penn Yan scoring with a goal.  Samantha Steinert added an assist.  Penn Yan’s senior netminder Meg Hopkins stopped 12 shots in goal for the Mustangs (6-2).
