Mustangs open with victories

In spite of the continuing rainy weather, the Penn Yan Mustang Track and Field teams finally opened their Finger Lakes League action.  

The Mustang teams recorded wins on Wednesday afternoon over Newark on the Mustang Field facility. The Mustang Boy’s team recorded a 80-61 victory.  Gegg Rouin recorded wins in the 1,600 and 3,200 long distance events.  

Chris Weeden won the 100 dash, Taylor Miller garnered first place finishes in the long jump and triple jump. 

Ryan Beattie won the pole vault with Dan Burdette coming in second place.  The Orange and Blue 4 x 100 relay team also finished in first place.

The Lady Mustangs also won their first time out, defeating Newark in Penn Yan 84-50.  Amanda Bogart (100), Ashley Harling (200, high jump), Rachel Colaneri (400, triple jump), Evelyn Pinneo (1,500), Caroline Smith (3,000), and Stephanie Lee (400 hurdles) picked up first place finishes for Penn Yan.  The Lady Mustang 4 x 100 relay team also scored a first place finish in this meet.

On Saturday, Penn Yan’s Geff Rouin won the 3,200 event at the Marion Invitational in Wayne County.
