Those who have gone above and beyond in their athletic achievements or contributions to interscholastic athletic programs at Penn Yan Academy will soon be formally honored.

The Penn Yan School District has established an Athletic Hall of Fame to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the athletic program. A committee of school staff and community members has been working to establish the Hall of Fame for several months.

The first class of honorees will be inducted into the Hall of Fame during this fall’s homecoming weekend activities. Nominations for the first class must be submitted to Tobin Tansey, director of athletics, by July 1. Nominations can be made posthumously.

Awards will be given to varsity letter recipients, coaches, teams and others who have exhibited dedication to the student athletics at Penn Yan Academy.

To be considered for the Hall of Fame, candidates must be:

• A graduate of Penn Yan Academy who excelled in at least one year of athletic competition at least 10 years prior to being nominated;

• A coach who led multiple years of athletics, becoming distinguished in the league, section or state. Nominations for coaches must be made at least five years after coaching career has ended.

• A team that is representative of community values and brings pride to the community.

• Someone who contributed to the athletic program in another capacity for at least 20 years. Nominations must be made at least five years after service.

The location of the Hall of Fame will be announced in the future.

Application packets are available at Penn Yan Academy, at the School District website, and at The Chronicle-Express office, 138 Main St., Penn Yan.

Nominations, including two letters of recommendation, must be submitted to Tansey by July 1. Honorees will be notified by Aug. 1.
