Penn Yan girls lacrosse to host Aquinas Monday in first round of Sectionals

The Penn Yan Lady Mustang lacrosse team has nailed down second place in the Finger Lakes League behind first place Marcus Whitman.

The No. 2 seed Lady Mustangs host No. 7 seed Aquinas Monday, May 23 at 4:30 p.m. in the quarterfinal round of the Section V Class C tournament.

On Tuesday afternoon in Seneca Falls, Penn Yan captured their 12th league win with a 13-6 win over Mynderse at Brackt Field.  The Lady Mustangs scored six goals in the first half and added seven more in the remaining half to walk off with the league win.  Leah Swarthout notched four goals to lead the Orange and Blue attack.

Jennifer Burt, Courtney Lafler, Samantha Mashewske, and Samantha Steinert contributed two goals each.  Hannah Christensen also added a goal.  Meg Hopkins recorded 12 saves in the game and had a .667 save percentage.

The next afternoon at home, Penn Yan entertained Penfield at Mustang Field in a non-league contest.  The Lady Patriots from Rochester outscored their host 10-3 in the first half and came away with a 18-5 victory.  Cara Elias scored two goals and added an assist for Penn Yan.  Jennifer Burt, Courtney Lafler, and Peyton Pallar also had goals for the Lady Mustangs.  Meg Hopkins recorded nine saves in goal for Penn Yan (12-2, 12-3).
