Former Mustang lacrosse player DT Benedict and his Mercyhurst College teammates won the NCAA D II Men’s National Championship over the weekend with a 9-8 victory over Adelphi University at the M&T?Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Md.
This is the first national championship for the Lakers in the 15-year history of the lacrosse program. This is the team’s fifth appearance in post-season play.

Last year, Penn Yan Academy alumni Michael Manley and the Duke University Lacrosse team won the Division I National Championship. Duke was eliminated this year by Maryland.
Manley played on the same Mustang teams as Benedict.
