Silver Creek 15 Penn Yan 8

The Penn Yan Mustang lacrosse team's hopes for another New York State Championship were short-circuited on Saturday evening by a talented Silver Creek team from Section VI. The Orange and Blue forces were defeated by the Black Knights 15-8, thus ending their bid for another title.

The Buffalo area team jumped out to a narrow 3-1 first quarter lead and extended their margin to 10-5 at the half, outscoring the Mustangs 7-4 in the second quarter. The local laxers never could get quite on track in this contest at Growney Stadium in Rochester.

Silver Creek kept the pressure on in the second half, and walked off with the 15-8 victory and advanced to the semifinals in Syracuse. The tough loss brought the curtain down on a successful campaign by the Mustangs. They went 16-4 playing a very difficult independent schedule and regained the Section V Class title.

Dylan Yonts notched three goals to lead the Mustangs in scoring in this contest.  Senior Adam Stork added two goals and two assists in his Mustang lacrosse finale.

Rion Davison and Ryan Maciejewski contributed a goal and an assist while J.J. Voigt connected on a goal and Anthony Luppino added an assist. Brandon Maciejewski and Matt Spoor shared time in the Penn Yan nets, combining for four saves.

The disappointed Mustangs will have to look to next year for another State championship bid. But they should be happy with their efforts with this successful 2011 season.
