Palmyra-Macedon 4, Penn Yan 0

Palmyra-Macedon's junior forward Quinton Ashley scored two goals and assisted another to help lead the Red Raiders past the Penn Yan Mustangs on Sept. 24.

Juniors Devin Robson and Jeremy Unterborn also scored one goal apiece. Sophomore Jarett Duchesneau, senior Luke Prince and junior Kleo Boro all earned one assist.

Penn Yan's junior goalkeeper David Travis saved nine shots, while Red Raider senior Mark Reeves earned a shutout with five saves, lowering his goals against average to.0239 on the year.

Mustang coach Jon MacKerchar said "We did not play to our potential

today. We made too many mistakes, and they capitalized on them."

With the win of their homecoming game, the Red Raiders remain tops in Section V's Class B sectional points standings with a 7-0-1 record.

Penn Yan's record falls to 3-3-2 overall.

Marcus Whitman 1, Penn Yan 0

The Marcus Whitman Wildcats scored with 31:10 remaining in the second half

to eke out a victory against the Penn Yan Mustangs Sept. 21.

The game's lone goal was scored by senior Matt Hey amidst a scrum in front of the Penn Yan goal in which it appeared that Penn Yan's goalkeeper David Travis may have had possession of the ball. The junior goalkeeper finished the day with 15 saves.

Wildcat senior Danny Clark was given credit for assisting Hey with the goal.

The Mustangs' closest scoring opportunity came with a penalty kick with

two minutes remaining in the first half of play. Sophomore Geoff Rouin's scoring attempt was saved by Whitman's senior goalkeeper Daniel Wickham. Wickham saved all four Mustang shots taken on him in the game.

"The penalty kick was a game changer" said Penn Yan coach Jon MacKerchar. "David (Travis) kept us in the game, but unfortunately they had our number again this year."

Penn Yan has not beaten Marcus Whitman in boys' soccer in two years. The Mustangs play the Wildcats at home on Oct. 13 to attempt to reverse this streak.

With the loss, Penn Yan's record falls to 3-2-2. Marcus Whitman's win catapults their record to 2-1-2.
