Football: Wayne 55, Penn Yan 0
The Penn Yan Mustangs were defeated in a 55-0 rout by the Wayne Eagles who led 48-0 at halftime.
Wayne's senior quarterback Connor Hollenbeck threw for 223 yards and two
touchdowns with 11 completions in fifteen passing attempts. Hollenbeck also hustled into the end zone for a rushing touchdown in the first half. Senior running back Zach Kosachook had 10 carries for 70 yards and four touchdowns. Senior Cory McNamara had five receptions for 148 yards, and one interception to add to his yearly total of four.
Senior wide receiver Tyler Graham recorded four catches for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Junior defensive back Nick Pomponio filled the stat sheet with ten tackles, five solo tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks, and a fumble recovery.
As a team, Wayne's defense held Penn Yan to -20 yards, and had two
fumble recoveries, two interceptions, and eight sacks.
Next week, Penn Yan looks for a win against the Newark Reds on the
road. Newark's record stands at 3-1 on the year. Newark's lone loss came against Wayne with a 41-7 defeat in the first week of play.
However, Newark is riding the momentum of a three game winning streak into Friday night's game. Newark defeated East Rochester-Gananda 25-13, Palmyra-Macedon 20-0, and Midlakes 28-6. Wayne plays another home game next Friday night against the Palmyra-Macedon Red Raiders.
With the loss, Penn Yan remains winless at 0-4 overall. Wayne stands
undefeated at 4-0.
