Penn Yan Cross Country hosts meet; Pinneo wins for girls

Penn Yan Academy's Cross Country squads participated in a meet against Honeoye, Marion and Waterloo at Keuka Lake State Park on Sept. 27.

Mustang sophomore Evelyn Pinneo ran the course in 22:47 to be the first girl to cross the finish line. Penn Yan's Mia Covell finished with a time of 24:27 to finish seventh, while sophomore Hannah Gaston finished

12 seconds later. Senior Carolyn Smith ended the race 10th with a time of 25:18. As a whole, the girls defeated Waterloo 27-29 and Marion 18-43, but were defeated by Honeoye 26-29.

For the boys, senior Robert Jensen finished with the Mustangs' best time of the day with a 20:57 run, while classmate Ben Falter ran just a second slower to take eighth place. The Mustangs defeated the Waterloo

Indians 21-37, yet lost to Marion 35-20 and by a score of 37-20 for Honeoye. Marion's Mike Verstraete ran the fastest time of the day amongst both groups with a 19:22 run.

Penn Yan's girls team record moves to 10-2, and is ranked seventh amongst small schools by Section V coaches. The boys' record is now 7-4 on the year.
