Volleyball: Penn Yan defeats Way-Co

Penn Yan picked up another non-league victory over the Wayland- Cohocton Golden Eagles on Oct. 3 with a 23-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-23 victory.

Mustang junior Maren Miles filled the stat sheet with 12 aces, eight kills, and two blocks, while classmate Taylor Travis had five aces and 12 kills. Penn Yan junior Abby Arnold had six aces, while classmate Jackie Trombley recorded two aces and 14 assists.

Way-Co’s senior captain Ashley Heiman compiled four aces, one dig, and eight kills.

Penn Yan Coach Kendra Reed said of her team: “They worked extremely well together tonight, which is something we have been working on all season.”

Penn Yan avenged their earlier loss to Way-Co, in which they lost by two in the fifth set of play.

The Palmyra-Macedon Red Raiders defeated the Penn Yan Mustangs Oct. 7 by scores of 25-22, 25-11, 23-25, and 25-19 in an Oct. 7 Finger Lakes East divisional matchup.

Pal-Mac’s junior setter Christina Standinger recorded 16 assists and 10 digs, while classmate middle hitter Brittany Szachta added eight digs and ten kills for the Red Raider cause.

Penn Yan junior middle hitter Maren Miles filled the stat sheet with four aces, four kills, and three blocks, while sophomore outside hitter Shelby Goodell added four aces and one kill for the Mustangs.

Pal-Mac climbs to 7-2 in league play and 10-2 overall. Penn Yan remains winless against league opponents, and falls to 3-9 on the year.
