Mustang Bowling Squads sweep Newark

Penn Yan's male and female bowling squads both left last Thursday's match against the Newark Reds knowing that they had just swept teams coached by professional bowler Doug Kent.

In an ironic twist, Kent's teams were defeated in a building featuring his namesake, Doug Kent's Lakeside Lanes.

The Mustang Boys' finished with a 7-0 win over the Reds with a total score of 3,210-3,030. Seniors Dan Fox and Derrick Fleischman once again led the way for Penn Yan, posting match scores of 737 and 688. Dan Fox was perfect through ten frames in his second game, before missing the strike in the eleventh frame to finish the game with a 289. Dan's sophomore brother Pete Fox also added a match score of 666, including a scores of at least 215 in each game. Newark was led by Derek Chowder, Tim Magee, and Nick Loomis, who bowled matches of 685, 652 and 617 respectively.

The Penn Yan Girls' also earned a 7-0 win over the Reds with a 2,424-2,087 total team score. Sophomore Brooke Parson led the Mustangs with a 631 match score, and freshman Courtney Ottaviano bowled a 544 overall. Kelsey Sage added a 478 for the Mustangs, while Newark was led by Alexis Rowe's 460.

The Penn Yan Boys' team remains undefeated at 21-0, while the Girls' record improves to 9-12 overall.
