Penn Yan Jr. Mustangs open 2012 season with clean sweep of Red Jacket

The Penn Yan Jr. Mustangs C team opened the 2012 season with a 26-6 win over the visiting Red Jacket Indians on Aug. 26. It was a total team effort on both sides of the ball and all phases of the game. Penn Yan controlled the entire game, but Red Jacket scored a late touchdown to avoid the shutout.

After a slow start, the B team pulled off a 36-6 win. The B team was pushed by great offensive line support helping the  backs get yards. Dylan Stape led the way with 78 yards and two extra points conversions. Connor Fingar ran for 68 yards and three touchdowns, while Brendan Prather and Andrew Norrison scored touchdowns with Jeff Kinyoun adding a two-point conversion.

On defense for the B team, Stape and Fingar controlled the line with nine tackles each. Spencer Christensen, Brendan Prather and Kyle Burne all added five tackles with many others helping in the stops.

The A team pushed a 18-0 shutout on some hard-hitting defense lead by Cole Kirch with 12 tackles, Josh Savior with 10 tackles and a host of others adding to the stops.

On offense, Cole Kirch ran for 90 yards with a touchdown, Tanner Irwin ran 101 yards and had a touchdown, and Devon Westerfield added a touchdown.

The Jr. Mustangs host Pal-Mac on Sept. 9.
