KEUKA PARK — Keuka College freshman Katherine Deatherage, a graduate of Marcus Whitman High School, was selected as the Wolves’ representative for Empire 8 Sportswoman of the Year for women’s basketball.

Deatherage had an instant impact on the women’s basketball team with her hard-working attitude. She led Keuka’s freshman class in points and rebounding this season, averaging 3.0 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. She set a career-high with seven points in Keuka College’s victory over Pitt.-Bradford in December. She also collected a personal-best eight rebounds in an Empire 8 game against Houghton.

“Katie’s work ethic both on the court and in the classroom are prime examples of the Empire 8’s vision of excellence,” said Head Coach Gary Broadhurst. “Katie’s personality also makes her one of the nicest young women to ever wear the Green and Gold.”

Deatherage was one of nine from the conference honored. From the conference's release, "The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that 'Competing with Honor and Integrity' is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen."
