Steven Webb turns the corner in a game earlier in the 2012 season. In Saturday's game against Merchant Marine, he ran for 150 yards and three TDs.

The Hobart College football team moved up in both polls this week, jumping up two spots to No. 10 in the American Football Coaches Association poll, and climbing to No. 12 in the D3football.com poll. It's the highest Hobart football has been in either ranking.

The Statesmen are 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the Liberty League following Saturday's 42-21 victory over Merchant Marine. For his part in the win, first-year running back Conner Hartigan (Albany Academy/Albany) was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Week.

Junior running back Steven Webb (Dundee) earned a spot on the League's Weekly Honor Roll.

Webb ran for a career-high 150 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries against the Academy. Entering Saturday's Liberty League opener, he had rushed 38 times for 125 yards and no TDs. Webb scored the game's opening TD from 9 yards out to put Hobart in front for good. He also scored on a 38-yard run in the third quarter and a 39-yard run in the fourth quarter, helping the Statesmen build a 35-6 lead.

The Mariners' defense was allowing just 131.3 yards rushing per game before the Statesmen posted a season-high 303 yards on the ground.

Hobart ranks in the top 30 in the nation in sacks (7th, 4.25/g), punt returns (8th, 19.0 yds/r), total defense (14th, 226.5 yds/g), sacks allowed (t-15th, 0.5/g), tackles for a loss (17th, 9.5/g), scoring defense (26th, 13.5 ppg), kickoff returns (26th, 25.88 yds/g), and rushing offense (30th, 232.5 yds/g).

The Statesmen return to action on Saturday, Sept. 29, when they visit WPI. Kickoff at Alumni Field is scheduled for noon.

WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3 in Geneva) will broadcast the game live with live stats and streaming video available via the WPI website.
