The Rochester Knighthawks of the National Lacrosse League, announces they have acquired Penn Yan native Michael Manley and Quinn Powless from the New England Black Wolves. Manley, a defenseman, and Powless, a forward, will be in the line-up for Saturday’s game against Vancouver at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester.

Michael Manley was a 5-year standout player for the Penn Yan Academy Mustang lacrosse teams during his brilliant high school lacrosse career. After leading the Mustangs to numerous championships, Manley attended Duke University. At Duke, Manley was a 3-time All-American selection and a member of the National Championship Blue Devil team. His strong college lacrosse résumé earned him a 4th round pick in the 2012 NLL draft. He was selected by the Philadelphia Wings that year. The 32nd pick of the draft, Manley was acquired by the New England Wolves and has played defense for them the past two-plus seasons.

Manley is certainly excited to be coming to Rochester to play lacrosse. Growing up in Penn Yan, he was a huge fan of the Rochester Knighthawks and followed them faithfully. Of course his favorite player on the Knighthawks was defenseman Pat Cougevan, another Penn Yan native and former Mustang lacrosse standout. Cougevan anchored the Knighthawk defense for several seasons. He was an All-American at Syracuse University and a member of their National Championship team.

Penn Yan lacrosse fans and rooters for the Rochester Knighthawks, will have several chances to watch their native son, Michael Manley in action. The Knighthawks have home dates left against New England March 12, New England March 26, Georgia April 16, Buffalo April 23, and Saskatchewan April 30. All of these games are Saturday evenings. Gametime is 7:30 p.m. except for the Buffalo game. That game will start at 8 p.m. So, there are plenty of games for every Penn Yan lacrosse fan to show up and root for one of their very own.
