College Lacrosse: Keuka men defeat Elmira 15 -4

Mustang alumni in college lacrosse action this week.

Junior Andrew Burns (Cicero-North Syracuse) tallied seven goals as the Keuka College Men’s Lacrosse team defeated Elmira College 15-4 Sunday afternoon.

Keuka College improves to 2-0 on the young season. Joining Burns with goals in the game for Keuka was Pat Giardino (Rome), Craig Gerhardt (Penn Yan), and Mark Shattuck (Syracuse) each with a pair. Freshman goalie Ryan Mavretish (Camillus) made 13 saves in goal.

After Elmira College scored the opening goal just over five minutes into the contest, the Wolves quickly responded with a goal to tie the game. Keuka added a tally in the first and led 2-1 after one. The second quarter was all Keuka. The wolves scored five goals, shutting out the Soaring Eagles, to lead 7-1 at the half. Keuka continued their run in the third. The Wolves ended with nine unanswered to build their lead. Elmira snapped the run with a goal at the end of the third, but Keuka led 9-2 going to the final quarter. Keuka put the game away in the fourth. The Wolves outscored Elmira 6-2 in the final quarter with five of the six goals coming on man-up situations. Keuka College continued onto the 15-4 victory.

The Wolves travel to the College of Brockport to face the Golden Eagles Saturday.

Limestone 25 Lees-McRae 9

Junior midfielder Ryan Maciejewski (Penn Yan) chipped in three goals and two assists Limestone College’s Feb. 28 25-9 victory over Lees-McRae College in the Conference Carolinas opener at Saints Field.

Stony Brook 9 Fairfield 6

Junior goalie Brandon Maciejewski (Penn Yan) made six saves in the complete game and moved to 4-0 on the season as the Stony Brook Seawolves defeated Fairfield 9 - 6 March 4.

The Seawolves return to the road next week as they travel to take on nationally-ranked Rutgers on Friday, March 10 at 6 p.m.
