The Keuka College Men’s Lacrosse team suffered their first loss of the 2017 season March 13, losing 18-7 at The College at Brockport.

Keuka College (2-1) got four goals from freshman Craig Gerhardt (Penn Yan). Andrew Burns (Cicero-North Syracuse) added a pair of goals and the scoring was rounded out by Dustin Springer ( iverpool). Mark Shattuck (Bishop Grimes) had a pair of assists and Ryan Mavretish (West Genesee) made 11 saves in goal for the Wolves.

The Wolves got out to a fast start against the Golden Eagles on a cold and snowy Monday. Craig Gerhardt opened the scoring on the man up and quickly added a second tally. After a Brockport goal, Gerhardt and Burns scored to give Keuka a 4-1 lead after the first quarter. The second was all Brockport as the Golden Eagles netted five goals to take a 6-4 lead into the locker rooms at halftime. The momentum carried into the second half for Brockport. They would outscore Keuka College 12-3 in the final 30 minutes to defeat the Wolves 18-7

X Marks the Spot: Just like their meeting last season, faceoffs proved to be key between Keuka College and Brockport. The Golden Eagles won 20 of 28 faceoffs to control possession most of the game. The increase in possession led to Brockport outshooting Keuka 57-24

KC Notes:

• The Wolves fall to 5-9 all-time against Brockport

• The 18 goals allowed is the most all-time in the series with Brockport

• With his four goals today, Craig Gerhardt has recorded four points in each of his first three games of his Keuka College career

• In relief duty, Kyle Andrake (Fayetteville Manlius) saved four of the five shots he faced

Coming up for Keuka College: The Wolves will have over a week to prepare for their next game. Keuka College will travel to Utica College Wednesday, March 22 to face the Pioneers. Utica holds a 4-3 lead in the all-time series, but Keuka edged the Pioneers last year 9-8 thanks to a last-second goal by Dustin Springer.
