Basketball sectional games begin Wednesday
As a close game between Penn Yan and Wayne was coming to close Feb. 12, Shane Bloom of Penn Yan took a pass from a free-throw rebound, and threw the ball 60 feet away from the Mustang’s basket to make the critical shot just as the buzzer for the end of the game went off. Penn Yan was trailing Wayne by one point before Bloom made the 3-pointer, putting the Mustangs in the lead and winning the game at almost exactly the same moment a similar shot put the Syracuse Orangemen in the “W” column again. Bloom had a total of three 3-point shots during the game, and the video of the shot has been shared around the internet and on local TV sports broadcasts.
