High School Round-up: Local teams compete in FL Invitational Meet; Whitman Boy's Tennis clinch title

The three local high school track and field teams competed in the Wayne/Finger Lakes Invitational Meet held at Victor High School Friday. The track and field teams — boy's and girl's — from Penn Yan, Dundee, and Marcus Whitman competed in this area wide high school competition. On the girl's side, Audrey Button from Marcus Whitman finished in second place 3,000 meters. She also finished in second place in the 2,000 steeplechase event.
In the boy's meet, Penn Yan's Andrew Davis took home first place honors in the 3,000 steeplechase. Dundee's Cody Salvatore took top honors in the long jump and triple jump. Scotsman teammate Geordan Conyers finished in second place in the long jump. Dundee's 4 x 400 relay team also grabbed a first place finish. Overall, Dundee's boy's team finished in third place in the team standings.
The Penn Yan Mustang softball team dropped three games last week.
Mynderse 9 Penn Yan 1
Mynderse Academy traveled to Penn Yan Thursday to take on the Mustang girls in a Finger Lakes East showdown. The Blue Devils are battling for the top spot in the league, and were coming off a tough loss to Waterloo. But the Seneca County diamond crew was up to the task. They defeated the hometown Mustangs 9-1 at the Middle School field on Main Street.
Sarah Alexander had a productive afternoon at the dish for Penn Yan. She went 2-for-4 and drove in Penn Yan's only run. Penn Yan's record in the Finger Lakes East is now 3-9. They are 3-13 overall.
Pal-Mac 9 Penn Yan 3
Tuesday in Penn Yan, Pal-Mac defeated Penn Yan 9-3. Erika Cooper delivered a triple and scored a run for Penn Yan.
Bath Haverling 5 Penn Yan 4
The Mustangs also dropped a 5-4 decision to Haverling at home last Monday. Sarah Alexander collected a double for Penn Yan in this game.
Dundee 5 Red Jacket 4
Dundee defeated Red Jacket 5-4 in Dundee last Tuesday in a Finger Lakes West contest. Dundee scored 3 runs in the 7th inning to pull out the come from behind win. Brooke Howell delivered a 2 run single in the big last inning rally. Olivia Taylor collected 2 hits also.
Dundee 17 HAC 2
The Dundee softball team collected their second win of the week with a 17-2 win over HAC in Brighton Friday. Xavia Miller was the winning pitcher allowing the Wolves just 2 hits and striking out 8. She also had a big day with her bat. She went 3-for-4, including a triple and a double, had 4 RBI and scored 4 runs. Cara Booth also went 3 for 4. Dundee improves their record to 5-7.
Marcus Whitman 8 Naples 0
Marcus Whitman defeated Naples 8-0 in a Finger Lakes West game in Gorham Wednesday. Kaitlin Bordwell was the winning pitcher limiting the Big Green to just 2 hits and striking out 8. She also banged out 4 hits and drove in three runs to help deliver the win. Hannah Van Norman also collected 2 hits for Whitman (2-9, 2-8 ).
Bloomfield 11 Marcus Whitman 0
Earlier in the week the Whitman girls were shutout by Bloomfield 11-0 in Bloomfield. Madi Herendeen and Sarah Hill had 2 hits each for the Wildcats.
Mynderse 6 Penn Yan 5
The Penn Yan Mustang baseball team squared off against the Mynderse Blue Devils for the second time in a week. After falling to the Devils last Saturday in Seneca Falls, the Orange and Blue had hoped to balance the ledger against the Seneca County nine at home Thursday. But it was not to be. Mynderse defeated the Mustangs for the second time in a week, 6-5. The loss dropped Penn Yan's record in the Finger Lakes East to 8-4. They are 8-7 overall. The Orange and Blue forces hope to right their ship next week with the regular season drawing to a rapid completion and the Section V tournament fast approaching.
Once again, the Penn Yan offense was led by their talented senior Lukas Larham. He had three hits on the afternoon.
HAC 11 Marcus Whitman 4
The Marcus Whitman Wildcat baseball team dropped a 11-4 decision to the Wolves of HAC in Brighton. For the Wildcats, Trevor Black clubbed a double and drove in 2 runs. The loss drops Whitman to 2-9 in Finger Lakes West play. They are 2-13 overall.
Red Jacket 11 Dundee 2
The Dundee Scot baseball team was defeated by Red Jacket 11-2 in Dundee last Tuesday. Bobby Strait and David Ayers picked up 2 hits each for Dundee. Justin Neu had a stolen base also in this game.
Naples 8 Dundee 2
Friday afternoon in Naples, the Big Green handed Dundee an 8-2 loss. Justin Neu and Bobby Strait delivered hits for the Scots. Dundee is 5-8 overall and 3-8 in the Finger Lakes West.
Midlakes 23 Marcus Whitman 4
The Wildcats dropped a 23-4 decision to Midlakes in a non-league game played in Gorham
Friday afternoon. Riley McLoud had a RBI double for the Wildcats. (2-11).
Bloomfield 17 Marcus Whitman 8
Whitman fell to Bloomfield 17-8 in Finger Lakes West action last Tuesday. Trevor Black clobbered a homerun for the Wildcats. Alex Bergstresser went 3-for-3 and Burlin Allen rapped out 2 hits for Whitman.
Marcus Whitman 4 Livonia 3
The Marcus Whitman Wildcat tennis clinched the Finger Lakes West title last week with wins over Waterloo and Bloomfield last week. They also picked up another huge win Friday. The Wildcats defeated previously undefeated Livonia 4-3. Jordan Trank, Brian Gorton, and Brad Jones picked up wins in their singles matches. Chase Brown and Doug Payne delivered a win in their number 1 doubles match. The Wildcats are 11-2 overall and 10-0 in Finger Lakes League action.
Mynderse 4 Penn Yan 1
Penn Yan's doubles team of Noah Terpolilli and Garrett Warren picked up Penn Yan's only team point in this match played in Seneca Falls last Tuesday.
Penn Yan 5 Waterloo 0
The day before, Penn Yan defeated Waterloo 5-0 in Penn Yan. Jack Arnold, Jon Lucas, and Brian Long scored wins in their doubles matches. Eden Slocum and Jarrett Alexander picked up a win in their doubles match.
Naples 4 Penn Yan 1
Thursday in Penn Yan, Naples defeated the Mustangs 4-1. Jack Arnold picked a win in his singles match for Penn Yan. The Mustangs are 3-7 this season.
