The Dundee baseball team picked up its first win of the season last Wednesday with a come-from-behind 6-5 win over county-rival Marcus Whitman.

It took efforts from the entire squad to squeak out the win.

“I was really proud of our guys for pulling off a tough victory in really difficult conditions,” said coach Chad Johnson of the strong, biting winds both teams would battle during the game. “They fought back from being down 4-0 with some clutch hitting by Logan Thompson and solid relief pitching from Kenny Empson.”

Thompson led the way for the Scots going 4-for-4 with an RBI. John Bentley added a hit and two RBI for the game. Empson, who came on in relief for Hunter Rieck, pitched three innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out seven Wildcats.

“I am very happy for my seniors because I believe this is the first time they have tasted victory at the varsity level,” said Johnson. “Hopefully we can keep this momentum going into the next game.”

The team plays Wednesday against Honeoye and faces Marcus Whitman at home Thursday.
