High School Action: Dundee Scots bowling and basketball teams are tops

The Dundee boys bowling team clinched the league championship with a 61-9 record after defeating Naples Jan. 29, and the girls finished second in the league.

Meanwhile, the Scots basketball team continues to dominate the Finger Lakes Conference after winning two more games.

On Jan. 31, they beat Red Jacket 66-39, then beat South Seneca 73-42 Feb. 1. Cole Hartman added up 35 points between the two games, and Justin Brace scored 26 points.

Their record stands at 14-1, and they are unofficially seeded #2 in the Section V Class C3 Tournament, which means they will have a bye in the first round of play later this month.

Dundee 66 Red Jacket 39

Dundee boys basketball defeated Red Jacket Jan. 31 with a score of 66-39. Cole Hartman led Dundee with a total of 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Justin Brace added another 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Dundee 73 South Seneca 42

The Scots added another victory when they defeated South Seneca 73-42 Feb. 1. Justin Brace and Cole Hartman both racked up 13 points, and Jarrett Butler and Tyler Kelly both added an additional 11 points.

Mynderse 59 Penn Yan 49

Mustangs Sean Emerson scored 13 points, and Ben Covert scored 10 points when Mynderse defeated Penn Yan 59-49 Jan. 31. With three games left in the regular season, Penn Yan’s record stands at 6-9.

Penn Yan is unofficially seeded at #5 in the Section V Class B1 Tournament.

Boys Bowling

Dundee 7 Naples 0

The Dundee boys defeated Naples with a total pin score of 2,654 (914, 935, 805) to 1,458 (503, 522, 433). Andrew Davis led the team with a total pin score of 663 (213, 220, 230). Aron Crans had a 199 point game, Ryan Goodman had a 193 point game, and Bowen Woodward of Naples had a 144 game.

Girls Bowling

Dundee 7 Naples 0

Dundee girls bowling defeated with total pin score of 1,612 (531, 576, 505)-913(311, 290, 312). Melvina Rhode led Dundee with a total of 336 pins (105, 105, 126). Ayla Lane had a 128 point game, Alanis Frank of Naples had a 145 point game, and Tori Bell of Naples bowled a 118 game.

Girls Basketball

Penn Yan 52 Mynderse 47

Ashley Walker led the Mustangs with 12 points, an assist, 5 rebounds, and a steal when they defeated Mynderse Feb. 1. Elizabeth Wunder added 11 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 blocks.

With three games in the regular season, the Mustangs (4-11) are unofficially seeded 9th in the Section V B1 Tournament bracket.

Dundee 43 Red Jacket 36

The Scots (8-7) outscored the Indians 15-7 in the fourth quarter to pull away. Individual statistics were not available. With three regular season games left, the Scots are unofficially seeded 8th in the Section V Class C2 Tournament.

Boys Wrestling

South Seneca 58 Penn Yan 27

Penn Yan wrestling lost to South Seneca Feb. 1 when the team was forced to forfeit three times. Cole Kirch of Penn Yan in the 132 lbs. weight class pinned Greg Porter in 2:31. Kevin Canales of Penn Yan pinned Skylar Rasmussen in 3:33.

Derek Sission of Penn Yan pinned Jared Nichols in 36 seconds. Justin Niver of Penn Yan won in a forfeit and. Jared Calice won in a decision.
