As season winds down, teams eye sectionals

Area high school teams are wrapping up their regular season action and preparing for sectional tournaments. Penn Yan's Brooke Parsons bowled a 290 game against Newark Feb. 4.
Girls Bowling
Penn Yan 7 Newark 0
The Penn Yan girls bowling team is on their way to sectionals after defeating Newark with a total pin count of 2,731 (986, 967, 778) to 2,366 (814, 839, 713) Feb. 4. Brooke Parsons, near perfection in her second game, led the team with a series total of 697 (235, 290, 172). In addition, Courtney Ottaviano bowled a game of 217, Kelsey Sage bowled a game of 214, and Michelle Magee of Newark bowled a game of 246.
Penn Yan boys bowling team won Feb. 4 against Newark with a total pin count of 2,833 (908, 1,009, 916) to 2,724 (970, 901, 853). Pete Fox led the Mustangs with a series of 588 (199, 195, 194). Victor Gurba bowled a game of 211, Jacob Whitford bowled a game of 195, and Nate McKendrick of Newark bowled a game of 247. The team finished second in the league for the season.
Boys Basketball
Geneva 66 Penn Yan 43
Penn Yan boys basketball lost against Geneva 66-43 Feb. 4. Shane Bloom of Penn Yan scored 10 points. Geneva's Terrell Johnson led the team with a total of 16 points.
Newark 70 Penn Yan 54
Penn Yan boys suffered another loss Feb. 7 against Newark, 70-54. Bradley Voigt of Penn Yan led the team with a total of 14 points and Shane Bloom added an additional 12 points. Tyler Collins of Newark scored three 3-point shots for a total of 15 points.
Bloomfield 80 Dundee 54
Dundee lost against Bloomfield Feb. 7 with a final score of 80-54. Dundee player Justin Brace scored a total of 12 points. Bloomfield's Ty Clauss and Alex Flattery both scored a total of 18 points. Bloomfield is the only team to have defeated the Scots (twice) this year.

Dundee girls basketball defeated Marcus Whitman Feb. 4 with a score of 55-32. Brooke Howell led the Scots with a total of 10 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks. Samantha Clark, Megan Howell, and Tristine Dombroski all scored a total of 9 points.
Geneva 54 Penn Yan 31
Penn Yan girls lost against Geneva Feb. 6 with a final score of 54-31. Penn Yan's Megan Lafferty led the team with a total of 10 points, 2 assists and 7 rebounds. Demi Battin added an additional 7 points and 1 rebound.
Newark 66 Penn Yan 44
Penn Yan girls suffered another loss Feb. 7 when Newark defeated them with a score of 66-44. With their final game set for Feb. 11 against Wayne, the Mustang's record stands at 4 wins and 13 losses.
Dundee 48 Bloomfield 37
Dundee won again on Feb. 6 against Bloomfield, 48-37. Megan Howell led the team with a total of 21 points, 2 assists, and 5 rebounds. Brooke Howell added an additional 17 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks.
