Basketball seasons end with sectional losses

Sectional tournaments began for area basketball teams Feb. 19. The quarterfinals ended this week, with Penn Yan and Dundee boys and the Penn Yan girls falling in their first games. The Dundee girls defeated Marion in the first round, but lost to Clyde-Savannah in round two.

Boys Basketball

Franklin 78, Penn Yan 48

The Mustangs lost their first sectional tournament game in the B1 division Feb. 21 to Franklin with a final score of 78-48. Diamante Brown of Franklin led the Franklin team with 9 points and 10 assists. Bradley Voigt of Penn Yan led the Mustangs with 13 points and Ben Covert added 10 points. The Mustangs finished with a 7-12 record.

Oakfield-Alabama 62, Dundee 51

Dundee boy’s basketball also lost in their first sectional game in the C3 division Feb. 21 to Oakfield-Alabama with a score of 62-51. Justin Brace led the Dundee team with 26 points in total and Jarrett Butler added an additional 14 points.

Girls Basketball

Dundee 45, Marion 31

The Dundee girls defeated Marion in the first sectional game Feb. 19 with a final score of 45-31. Megan Howell led the Dundee team with 16 points and 4 assists. Brooke Howell added an additional 11 points and 1 assist.

Dansville 65, Penn Yan 41

The Penn Yan Girls suffered a loss against Dansville Feb. 19, 65-41. Both Megan Lafferty and Ashley Walker led the Mustangs with 10 points and 1 assist. Demi Battin added an additional 9 points.

Clyde-Savannah 39, Dundee 38

Dundee lost in round 2 of sectionals to Clyde-Savannah in an incredibly close game of 39-38 Feb. 22. Game details were not available.
