Girl's Basketball: Dundee girls drop league finale to Romulus

Gary Pinneo

The Dundee Scots girl's basketball team traveled to Romulus Wednesday evening for a championship showdown with the Warriors. Both teams sported identical 14-1 records going into this key match. The only loss Romulus had suffered this year was to the Scots in Dundee back in January. The winner of this game would claim the Finger Lakes West title for 2014-5. All the ingredients were there for a real, old fashioned barn-burner.

Romulus was up to the challenge, defeating the talented Scots from Dundee 53-44. The Warriors claimed the Finger Lakes West title with the win. It is the second consecutive league crown for the Seneca Lakesiders. Of course, Romulus was the New York State Class D champions last season.

Individual scoring statistics were not available for Dundee players.

Up next for both teams, the Section V Tournament. The official seeding for this roundball tourney will be made later today (Thursday). First round action will start Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 24 and 25.

Wayne 65 Penn Yan 37

The Penn Yan Mustang girl's basketball team dropped their Finger Lakes East finale at Wayne Central School Tuesday evening. The Wayne five clinched a share of the Finger Lakes East championship with a 65-37 win over the winless Mustangs. They are the co-champions of the league.

Wayne and Geneva both finished the regular season with identical 13-1 records. Penn Yan ended their regular schedule with a 0-14 FL East record. They are 1-18 overall.

Sydney Bloom led the Orange and Blue attack with 13 points against the talented Wayne Eagles.
