Girl's Basketball: Penn Yan and Marcus Whitman eliminated from Sectional Tournaments

The Penn Yan Mustang and Marcus Whitman Wildcat girl's basketball teams played quarter-final games in the Section V Girl's basketball tournament Saturday afternoon. The Mustang girls and Wildcat girls both were #8 seeds in their respective brackets, and had to take on the #1 seeded teams. Penn Yan traveled to Livonia to take on the top seeded Bulldogs, while Whitman journeyed to Wellsville for their game. Penn Yan and Marcus Whitman both suffered losses on Saturday, ending their sectional runs and their seasons.

Livonia 64 Penn Yan 30

The #1 Livonia Bulldog girls basketball team easily defeated the #8 Penn Yan Mustangs in a Section V Girl's B-1 quarter-final game played in Livonia Saturday afternoon. The hometown Bulldogs jumped out to a big 33-12 advantage at the half and cruised to the 64-30 victory. The loss eliminated Penn Yan from the tournament. Livonia will advance to the bracket's semi-final game on Tuesday evening. The Mustang girls end their season with a 7-15 record.

Sydney Bloom once again led the Mustangs in scoring with 8 points. Emalee Rose Brockman and Lizzy Lafferty added 6 points each. Brockman also picked up 4 assists and 7 rebounds. Emily Wunder also pulled down 7 rebounds for Penn Yan.

Penn Yan ends their season with the loss. But there is a bright future ahead for the improving Orange and Blue basketball program. The team will return all of their starters. A core group that got quite a bit of experience playing this year. Senior Brie Yonge was the only graduating player on the roster for Penn Yan's game on Saturday.

Wellsville 65 Marcus Whitman 35

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat girl's basketball team dropped a 65-35 decision to the top seeded Wellsville team on Saturday in Wellsville. The loss eliminated the Wildcats from the Section V Class B-2 tournament.
