The Whitman Wildcats met the Gananda Blue Panthers Monday night, March 2 in Newark for the Class C1 semifinal game. Whitman came away from the match victorious with a 74-67 score, and now move into the final round of Sectionals. Standing in the Wildcats’ way of the C1 title will be the top-seeded Red Jacket Indians, who promise to be a challenging foe. Aidan Royston led Whitman’s effort Monday, scoring 19 points and grabbing 9 steals. Also for the Wildcats, Seth Benedict scored 9 points and snagged 10 rebounds, Noah Hildreth scored 12 points and Jordan Lahue added 11. Gananda’s Jerry Brongo led his team with a game-high 21 points. With hopes of a title that has eluded the school since 1976, Marcus Whitman will face Red Jacket in the Blue Cross Arena Friday night at 9 p.m.
