The opening tip off with Penn Yan’s # 42 Mason Kuver and Avon’s # 13 Nick Rowland.

The Mustangs traveled to Bloomfield Wednesday night to face the 1st-seeded Avon Braves in the Section V Class B2 Boys Semifinal basketball game. The Braves took an early lead, which they held on to through the game's entirety, finally taking the win at the end of four quarters and ending Penn Yan's run at the B2 title.

Avon outpaced Penn Yan early, and though their lead was a mere 3 points at the end of the first, by the half, Avon was leading 41-20. The third quarter didn't improve for the Mustangs with the score at 58-34 heading into the fourth.

Penn Yan was able to hold off any more Avon points for the majority of the fourth quarter and had closed the gap to 58-42 with just under 4 minutes remaining, it just wasn't enough at the end and the Mustangs found themselves defeated at the sound of the buzzer.

Michael Rowland led Avon's efforts with 18 points while Tyler Daily, Nick Rowland and Dylan Smith added 14 points a piece.

For Penn Yan, Peter Nicholson scored 10 points, Brennan Prather scored 7 and both Kyle Berna and Griffin Emerson added 5 points. Penn Yan finished out their season at 10-12 while Avon now moves on to face Wayland-Cohocton at the Blue Cross Arena Saturday for the Class B2 title.
