Penn Yan and Dundee boy keglers finish season

Gary Pinneo

It took a while. After the brutal winter weather forced the Section V Boy's Bowling Tournament to be postponed over President's Day vacation, the championship tournament was finally staged on Monday, Feb. 23 in Rochester. This year's tourney was held at the AMF Lanes in Gates.

The local teams from Penn Yan and Dundee entered the season's final bowling fiesta with high hopes for a Section V title. The two Yates County high school bowling programs have rapidly become some of the best keglers in Section V. The Penn Yan boys won the Finger Lakes East League and Dundee finished a strong second in the Finger Lakes West. The next step for both squads would be a Section V crown. Unfortunately for both teams, it was not to be this year.

The Penn Yan Mustangs finished in 5th place with 4,706 total pins. North Rose/Wolcott won the Class C title. Dundee accrued 4,181 pins in the Class D event. This would give the Scots a 6th place finish. The Section V tourney ended in a disappointing way for the Yates County bowlers. But this does not diminish the season-long accomplishments for each program. Yates County remains a Bowling Capital in Section V. Congratulations to both of these successful programs.
