Mustang keglers open 2017-18 season with two victories

The Penn Yan Mustang bowling team opened their 2017-18 season Nov. 14 at Rose Bowl Lanes in Newark. The Finger Lakes bowling league will feature a different scoring method this season. There will 4 total team points up for grabs. Each team will have 6 bowlers, with the top five scores counting toward the team total game points. Each game will count as 1 team point. The team with the top total pins will also earn a point.

Penn Yan Boys 3 Newark 1

In the Nov. 14 season opener, the Mustang boy’s team defeated the hometown Reds 3-1. Zack Blauvelt led the Orange and Blue bowlers, posting a 685 series (257-224-204). Jon Mashewske added a 541 (199-194). Cameron Bassage rolled a 499 (176). Penn Yan outscored Newark in total pins, 2622 to 2542. After game one, the Penn Yan boy’s team posts a 3-1 record.

Newark 4 Penn Yan Girls 0

The Penn Yan girl’s team was shutout by Newark 4-0. Kari Ayers topped the Mustang scoring sheet with a 636 series (223-221-192). Emilie Thomas added a 585 (185) while Emily Augustine rolled a 466 (166). Newark outscored Penn Yan in total pins by a 2725 to 2343 margin.

Penn Yan Boys 4 HAC 0

The Penn Yan Mustang bowling teams hosted Harley Allendale Columbia at Roseland Bowl in Canandaigua Nov. 16. It was a victorious encounter for the Orange and Blue. Both the boy’s and girl’s Mustang team swept the HAC Wolves, winning by 4-0 margins.

The Mustang boy’s team improved their early season mark to 7-1 with their shutout win. Zack Blauvelt once again led the Mustangs on the scoring sheet rolling a 509 (173-204). Cameron Bassage contributed a 501 ( 170-182) and Zach Gurba a 498 (188-162). Marcus Mayhew added a 218 single game. The Mustangs piled up 2424 total pins while the Wolves had 1812.

Penn Yan Girls 4 HAC 0

The Orange and Blue girl’s team was led by Kari Ayers’s 550 series (179-222). Emilie Thomas added a 514 (181-169) and Emilie Augustine a 454 (162-157). Penn Yan recorded 2274 pins to HAC’s 1721. The Penn Yan girl’s team improves to 4-4 with the victory.
