The Penn Yan Mustang boy's golf team dropped two matches last week in Finger Lakes East play.

Geneva 240 Penn Yan 252

On Monday, Sept. 12 at the Seneca Lake Country Club, Penn Yan dropped a 240-252 decision to first place Geneva. Bryce Johnson was Penn Yan's top golfer. He carded a 42 in this contest.

Waterloo 246 Penn Yan 260

On Tuesday, Sept. 13 at Lakeside Country Club in Penn Yan, Waterloo defeated the hometown Mustangs 246-260. Once again Bryce Johnson topped the Mustang scoring sheet shooting a 43. Penn Yan's record stands at 2-5. 

Girl's Soccer

The Dundee Scots girl's soccer team is still looking that elusive first win of the season.

Honeoye 4 Dundee 0

On Wednesday, Sept. 14, Honeoye shutout Dundee 4-0. Andi Wood recorded 13 saves in goal for Dundee.

Marcus Whitman 3 Geneva 0

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat girl's soccer shutout Geneva 3-0 in Gorham Wednesday afternoon. Emily Thompson scored 2 goals for Marcus Whitman. Ari Beverley added the other goal. Nichaela Commisso dished out 3 assists.

Cross Country

The Penn Yan Mustang cross country team opened their 2016 season with a meet at the Seneca Lake State Park in Geneva. They competed against teams from Newark, Geneva, and East Rochester.

The Mustang girls ended the afternoon with a 2-1 record, defeating Newark and East Rochester while losing to Geneva. Sona Dobronova finished in first place overall and teammate Maci Nicholson finished third. Katie Volk grabbed a sixth place finish and Lydia Anderson an 11th place finish.

On the boy's side, the Orange and Blue boy's team finished 1-2. The very young Mustang team defeated East Rochester and lost to Newark and Geneva. Penn Yan's Ben DeMoras was the Mustang's best finisher in sixth place. Payton Tomlinson, Dan Tomlinson, Garrett Golden, Daniel Jiang, Damien Soyring, and Jon Gulick all performed well, posting career best times.

Girl's Tennis

Penn Yan 4 Marcus Whitman 1

The Penn Yan Mustang girl's tennis team defeated neighboring Marcus Whitman Monday, Sept. 12 in Gorham. Jenna Curbeau and Shelby Woodard scored wins in their singles matches for Penn Yan. The Mustang doubles teams of Marina Coriale/Victoria Staff and Katy Worden/Britanny Gavigan also recorded team wins for Penn Yan. Rebecca Frarey scored the sole Whitman point with a win in her singles match.

On Wednesday afternoon in Penn Yan, the Orange and Blue scored a 5-0 shutout win over Newark. Riley Pallar, Jenna Curbeau, and Shelby Woodard picked wins for the Mustangs in their singles matches.

Naples 3 Marcus Whitman 2

The Marcus Whitman girl's tennis team dropped a 3-2 decision to Naples Wednesday, Sept. 14 in Naples. The Wildcat team points came from their doubles teams.

Canandaigua 7 Marcus Whitman 0

On Tuesday, Sept. 13 Marcus Whitman was shutout 7-0 by Canandaigua in a non-league match played in Gorham.


Wayne 3 Penn Yan 0

The Wayne Eagles defeated Penn Yan 3-0 in Finger Lakes East League action Monday, Sept. 12 afternoon. Emily Wunder had 17 digs, 11 kills, and 3 blocks for Penn Yan. Teammate Brenna Voigt added 9 assists and 7 digs. Sydney Bloom contributed 5 kills, 5 digs, and 1 block for the Mustang girls.

Waterloo 3 Penn Yan

Thursday, Sept. 15 in Waterloo, the hometown Indians defeated Penn Yan 3-2 in Finger Lakes East action. Penn Yan jumped out to a 2-1 advantage, but Waterloo came back to edge the visiting Mustangs in 5 games. Emily Wunder led Penn Yan with 24 kills, 12 blocks, and 5 aces. Brenna Voigt added 26 assists while Sydney Bloom contributed 16 digs and 5 kills. Elissa Callaway accounted for 12 digs.

Girl's Swimming

Marcus Whitman 64 Dansville 34

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat girl's swimming team defeated Dansville 64-34 in Dansville Tuesday, Sept. 13. Ashley Parson, Hailey Rossi, and Morgan Smithling picked individual wins in 2 events each. The Wildcat relay teams also swept.
