The Penn Yan Mustang cross country teams traveled to Gorham to compete in the Marcus Whitman meet Oct. 10. Penn Yan competed with teams from Newark, Romulus, and host Marcus Whitman. The Mustang girl’s team finished the afternoon with a 2-1 record, defeating Marcus Whitman and Romulus. Maci Nicholson finished in 2nd place with teammates Jaina Doyle and Grace Murphy registering 3rd and 4th place respectively. Penn Yan’s Mary Ingram came in 13th place. For the Marcus Whitman girl’s team, Allie Harford and Amanda Cline came in 7th and 8th with Emma McDowell and Lauren O’Conner, finishing in 10th and 11th. The Mustang girl’s team improved their season record to 13-3.

In the boy’s competition, Penn Yan finished the afternoon 0-2. Ben DeMoras finished in 3rd place with Ayden Mowry and Peyton Silliman coming in 6th and 11th respectively. Marcus Whitman’s Gabe Stash finished in 2nd place. Also for Whitman, Aiden Royston and Liam Prendergast registered 6th and 11th place finishes. The Penn Yan boy’s team dropped to 8-7 on the year.

The Mustang harriers will compete in this weekend’s Cuba-Rushford meet. On Oct. 17, the Orange and Blue runners will travel to Ontario County Park for a meet with Honeoye, Wayne, Midlakes, and Pal-Mac. This will be the final regular season meet of the year. The League Championship meet is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 28 at Midlakes High School.

Boy’s Soccer

Geneva 1 Penn Yan 0

Mason Rusinko scored a double overtime goal for Geneva in the 94th minute to give the Panthers a 1-0 Finger Lakes East win over Penn Yan. The two teams battled to a scoreless game in regulation time before Geneva ended the marathon affair with the O.T. tally. The game was played in Geneva Oct. 13.

Penn Yan 5 Newark 0

The Penn Yan Mustang boy’s soccer team scored 4 unanswered goals in the second half to pull away from Newark 5-0 in a game played in Penn Yan Oct. 11. The Mustangs grabbed a first half lead on a penalty kick goal by Fabian Martinez-Sanchez. Josh Smith tallied a PK goal early in the second half to spark a Mustang scoring spree. Alex Theismeyer, Austin Lafferty, and Garrett Spoor added Penn Yan goals. Austin Blumbergs and Tito Chavez added assists. Earlier in the week in Seneca Falls, Penn Yan was shut out by Mynderse 1-0.

Marcus Whitman 3 Hammondsport 0

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat boy’s soccer team shutout Hammondsport 3-0 in a non-league contest played in Gorham Oct. 13. Dominick Morey scored 2 goals for the Wildcats while Jonathan Donovan added the other. Ian Bator chipped in an assist. Tim Cornish and Zachary Payne combined for 12 saves in goal for Whitman.

Naples 4 Marcus Whitman 0

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat boy’s soccer team fell to Naples 4-0 in a Finger Lakes West contest played in Naples Oct. 11. Earlier in the week, the Wildcats defeated HAC 2-1 in another Finger Lakes West tilt. 

Bradford 10 Dundee 0

Bradford shutout Dundee 10-0 in a non-league contest played in Bradford Oct. 13.

The Dundee Scots fell to Bloomfield 13-0 on the road Oct. 9. Dundee was also blanked 7-0 by Midlakes Oct. 11 in Dundee. 

Girl’s Soccer

Penn Yan 1 Waterloo 0

Penn Yan’s Leah Moniot scored at the 9 minute mark of overtime to give the hometown Mustang girl’s a hard fought 1-0 win over Waterloo. Logan Broome added an assist on the game-winning goal. Penn Yan netminder, Melanie Gleason, was once again strong in goal, making 11 saves to preserve the Finger Lakes East win.

Newark 4 Penn Yan 0

Newark and Penn Yan faced off in Newark in a Finger Lakes League tournament game Oct. 12. The hometown Reds scored 2 goals in the first half and another 2 goals in the second half and handed the Penn Yan girl’s a 4-0 setback. The loss dropped Penn Yan’s season record to 3-13 with one regular season game remaining.

South Senecca 5 Marcus Whitman 3

South Seneca rallied to defeat Marcus Whitman 5-3 in Gorham Oct. 12. Jamie Colf, Nichaela Commisso, and Katrina Martin tallied the three Wildcat goals. Katrina Meyer recorded 11 saves in the nets for Whitman. Marcus Whitman is 11-4-1 this season.

Marcus Whitman 4 HAC 2

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat girl’s soccer team registered a 4-2 Finger Lakes West League win over HAC in Gorham Oct. 10. Emily Thompson scored 3 goals for Whitman. Nichaela Commisson added a goal and an assist. Katrina Meyer and Makayla Selvek recorded 8 saves and 2 saves respectively in the Whitman win.

Edison 3 Dundee 1

The Dundee Scots girl’s soccer team fell to Edison 3-1 in a league tourney game played in Dundee Oct. 12. Cheyenne Cummings scored the lone Dundee goal. The Dundee girls are 0-13 this season.

In other Finger Lakes West action Oct. 10, Sodus shut out Dundee 5-0 in Sodus. Karyanna Rutledge had 13 saves in goal for Dundee.
