Penn Yan's Ben DeMoras to run in state Cross Country meet after Section V meet

Penn Yan's Ben DeMoras finished 2nd in the Section V Championship

The Section V Cross Country meet was held Nov. 3 at Wayne High School, and while for most runners, the meet signals the end of the season, Penn Yan's Ben DeMoras will run again Nov. 11. The Penn Yan Mustang and Marcus Whitman teams competed in the Class C event on the 5K course at Wayne. Both Penn Yan and Marcus Whitman teams competed well in the multi-school event.

The Marcus Whitman boy’s team finished in 1st place in Class C with 41 points. Whitman’s Gabe Stash came in 1st place while teammate Aidan Royston finished in 8th place. Liam Prendergast finished in 9th place while Alex Lyons and Kaden Kays garnered 11th and 12th place finishes.

The Penn Yan boy’s team came in 4th place with 134 points.DeMoras came in 2nd place, while teammate Ayden Mowry finished in 19th place. With the second place finish, DeMoras has qualified to compete in the New York State Cross Country Championship this Saturday.

Connor Moore and Peyton Silliman came in 24th and 34th place respectively, while Garrett Golden, Daniel Jaing and Mason Bishop ran well too, according to Coach Rick Smith.

In the Class C girl’s competition, Penn Yan finished in 5th place overall with 161 points. Maci Nicholson garnered a 11th place finish while Gracie Murphy and Jaina Doyle came in 13th and 14th place respectively. Mary Ingram finished in 58th place, while Allyssa Johnson and Anna Fleet competed well, noted Smith.

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat girl’s team finished in 6th place with 190 points. Amanda Cline was the Wildcat’s best finisher, coming in 30th place. Lauren O’Connor came in 32nd place, Emma McDowell 34th place, and Allie Harford 42nd place for Whitman.
