Girls Lacrosse: Penn Yan girls clinch at least a tie for league title

The Penn Yan Mustang girl's lacrosse team continued to win. The Orange and Blue laxers picked up two more wins this week in Finger Lakes League action. With the two victories, the Mustangs clinch at least a tie for the league championship title. They are undefeated in Finger Lakes League action with a 11-0 record. Overall they enjoy a 12-1 record. Also the victorious Mustang lacrosse program continues to impress at the New York State level. They were voted to be the #12 ranked team Class C school in the State in the latest small school writer's poll. The Penn Yan girls have been impressive and are peaking at the right time with the Section V tournament looming on the horizon.

Penn Yan 18 Wayne 5

Monday afternoon in Ontario, Penn Yan defeated Wayne 18-5. Courtney Lafler scored 5 goals and dished out 4 assists in this contest to lead the Mustang scoring attack. Heather Conklin added 6 goals to the winning effort while Brie Yonge contributed 3 goals and 2 assists. Penn Yan jumped out to a 11-3 in the first half of this contest and never looked back.

Penn Yan 11 Pal-Mac 10

Wednesday evening in Palmyra, Penn Yan defeated Pal-Mac 11-10 in overtime. This marked the second time this season Penn Yan defeated the Red Raiders in O.T. The dramatic overtime win Wednesday earned the Penn Yan girl's at least a tie for the Finger Lakes League championship. They can win the league outright next week with a win.

Brie Yonge was the Mustang's scoring leader in this game. She scored 4 goals. Heather Conklin, Courtney Lafler, and Sydney Bloom connected for 2 goals each. This trio of scorers also accounted for 3 assists. Elissa Callaway also notched a goal for Penn Yan. Jessica Covell stopped 5 shots in goal for the Mustangs.

Marcus Whitman 6 Gananda 4

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat girl's lacrosse team defeated Gananda 6-4 in Gorham Wednesday. Emily Thompson and Emily Brassie scored 2 goals each for Whitman. Emma Knapp, Abbie Alvord, and Cameron James also scored goals for the Wildcats. Liz Cooley had 9 saves in goal for Whitman.

Mynderse 15 Marcus Whitman 7

Marcus Whitman dropped a 15-7 decision in Gorham to Mynderse in Finger Lakes League action. Abbie Alvord registered 3 goals and an assist for Whitman in this contest. Cameron Jones also added 2 goals and an assist. Liz Cooley had 8 saves in this game.

Marcus Whitman's record stands at 3-8 in league play and 3-10 overall.
