2015 Section V Class C Champion Penn Yan Mustangs

In a rematch of last year's Section V Class C title game, Penn Yan once again defeated Aquinas Institute 12-2 to claim the Sectional championship. Penn Yan defeated the Little Irish last year 8-7 to advance to the State Tournament. It also marked the 4th time in 5 tries, Penn Yan defeated the Rochester school in Section V play.

The Mustangs wasted little time in Wednesday's showdown at St. John Fisher College. The Penn Yan laxers scored 5 quick goals in the first quarter to gain a solid hold of the game. They extended their lead to 7-0 at the half and coasted the rest of the way in the second half en route to the 12-2 win. The #3 seed Little Irish really never got untracked in this contest.

Two of Penn Yan's talented juniors led the Mustang offense in this championship tilt. Austin Fingar and Sean Emerson registered 3 goals each in the win. The Mustang defense effectively shut down the normally high scoring Irish. It was a solid team effort. The type of team play that wins championship games. Of course, the Mustangs know how to do that. They have won 18 of the last 19 Class C title games.

Up next fore the Mustangs: A first round game in the New York State tournament. They will play undefeated Akron from Section VI Saturday afternoon. This game, once again will be played at St. John Fisher College. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
