Boys Lacrosse: Mustangs notch two wins

The Penn Yan boys’ lacrosse team competed in two games last week, defeating Eden 14-0 Saturday and winning against Bath 17-4 earlier in the week.

The team shut out Eden to improve its record to 8-2 on the season. Penn Yan jumped out to a 10-0 lead by halftime, scoring four more in the second half.

The Mustangs were led by Devon Gerhardt who had 3 goals and 4 assists. Conner Fingar also had a big day with 4 goals and 2 assists. Ayden Mowry had 2 goals and 1 assist, Clay Kinyoun scored 2 goals, Bryan Duran had an assist, and Mekhi Mahan added a goal and an assist.

Goaltender Jeff Kinyoun had three saves in 40 minutes of play. Griffin Emerson took over for Kinyoun and had three saves in eight minutes.

Earlier in the week, Penn Yan again jumped out to a big lead as they led Bath 15-2 at halfime. Gerhardt (5 goals, 2 assists), Mahan (4 goals), and Mowry (2 goals, 2 assists) filled the stat sheets for Penn Yan. Both Kinyoun and Emerson had three saves apiece.

“The boys had a good week and were able to take control of two games against fellow Class D schools,” said coach Brian Hobart. “We have three challenging weeks ahead and the kids are looking forward to the competition.”

The team played at McQuaid Tuesday and travel to Westhill Friday.
