Boy's Tennis: Marcus Whitman Wildcats win Class CC Title

Gary Pinneo

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat boy's tennis team defeated Mynderse 3-2 in Newark May 22 to win the Section V Class CC title. The championship game was the second time the two teams had met in two week. Whitman defeated Mynderse 3-2 a couple of weeks ago to clinch the Finger Lakes League title. Once again this title clinching match was closely fought featuring two three-set matches and two tiebreakers.

For the Wildcats, Brad Jones won his # 1 singles match 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. This win clinched the title for the Wildcats. Brian Groton won his singles match in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. A win by Whitman's # 1 doubles team of Chase Brown and Doug Payne was huge for the Wildcats.

This was Marcus Whitman's 16th win of the season. They dropped only 2 matches this season.
