Friday was a busy day for Penn Yan Academy’s Heather Andersen. The talented Mustang senior competed in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association track and field competition at Cicero-North Syracuse High School.

Andersen qualified for the State meet a week earlier at the Section V Championships, winning or placing second in the 200-meter and 400 dash and 800 run events. She has dominated in these events during the regular track and field season, earning the laurels of one of the best runners in Section V. Friday and Saturday capped off an astounding season and high school track career for the Penn Yan senior.

Andersen placed fourth in the Division II finals in the 400 dash with a time of 56.90 seconds. Last year she finished 12th in the same event. Also on Friday, the PYA sprinter picked up a 16th place finish in the preliminaries of the 200 dash with a time of 26.33 seconds. She ended a very busy day by finishing in 29th place in the 800 run.

Andersen completed a hectic two day stay by finishing seventh in the combined DI-DII 400 Federation Final race Saturday with a time of 56.74 seconds, her personal best time.

The state track and field meet was the final athletic competition for the PYA sports program for this school year.

This wrapped up a truly amazing spring season for the Orange and Blue teams and athletes. Three teams (baseball, softball, and girl’s lacrosse) went to the Section V finals. The Mustang boy’s lacrosse team were winners of the Section V Class C title, NYS Far West Regional and runner-up in the State Class C semi-final.

And a truly gifted runner, Heather Andersen, represented Penn Yan so well on the difficult New York State Athletic Stage. Congratulations all!
