Joddie Decker of Penn Yan competed in the 1,500m event at the New York State Track & Field Championships June 10 Union-Endicott High School. One of just two 8th graders in the field of 28 of the state’s top runners, Decker finished with a time of 4:58 for an 11th place finish in Division 2 and 24th overall. “This is a great accomplishment for just being an 8th grader,” says Coach Rick Smith.

This is the third Penn Yan girl’s runner in two years to go to state competition, according to Smith.

Maci Nicholson competed in the state cross country championship in the fall of 2015. Sona Dobronova in competed in the state cross country championship in fall of 2016, and now Joddie Decker in track & field this spring.
