Penn Yan track season opens with invitational meet

The Penn Yan track team competed in its first meet of the season last week as the Mustangs hosted Red Creek, Red Jacket, and Sodus April 2.

The Penn Yan girls were paced by Joddie Decker, Gracie Murphy, and Jaina Doyle. Decker and Doyle finished first and second in the 3000-meter run with times of 11:35.44 and 12:56.24. Decker, Murphy, and Doyle finished in the top three spots in the 1500 meter run with times of 5:22.54, 5:33.04, and 5:51.14.

Rachel Wheeler had a strong showing in the 800-meter run, earning a second place with a time of 2:57.34. Alexxis Henry finished in a tie for second place in the high jump with a mark of 4-06. Henry also finished in fifth place in the 800-meter run with a time of 3:01.84.

Murphy took fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 27-10 and came in seventh in the long jump with a mark of 12-10.

Triana Burgos-Farnan finished fifth in the discus throw with a mark of 58-10 and also came in ninth in shotput at 20-01.50.

For the boys, Daniel Jiang came in fourth in both the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash with times of 13.34 and 27.14.

David Young and James Tette finished in fifth and sixth place in the 1600-meter run with marks of 5:30.44 and 5:31.44. The duo took second and third place in the 3200-meter run with times of 12:01.24 and 12:09.44.

Dominic Lafferty took second place in the high jump at 5-00.00 and earned a third place in the long jump at 17-10.00. Jiang finished right behind him in the long jump at 17-06.00.
