High School Wrestling: Mustangs drop two matches

The Penn Yan Mustang wrestling team competed in two matches on the road last week including a Finger Lakes Central bout with Waterloo. The Orange and Blue grapplers battled in each contest, but come up short both times.

Geneva 42 Penn Yan 39

The Mustangs traveled to Geneva Thursday to take on the Panther matsmen. Geneva edged the Mustangs by a 42-39 count. Penn Yan picked wins in four contested matches. Courtney Lafler (106 lbs.) enjoyed a 4-0 decision in her match. Jarred Calice (113 lbs.) also won by a 5- decision. At 145 lbs., Kevin Canales scored a 8-3 decision win and Coty Bailey (152 lbs.) won his match by pinning his opponent.

Waterloo 57 Penn Yan 21

On Saturday, Penn Yan lost to Finger Lakes Central rival Waterloo 57-21 in Waterloo. For Penn Yan, Michael Peacock (120 lbs.) won a major decision by a 10-0 count. Nate Elliott (126 lbs.) also scored a MD 10-0 as did Cody Bailey (152 lbs.) 15-4. Cole Kirch won by decision in the 138 lbs. match 4-2 and Kevin Canales (145 lbs.) won by fall.

The Central Division loss dropped Penn Yan's record to 3-2. The Mustangs are currently in third place in the Central. First place Waterloo improved their record to a perfect 5-0.
