Twelve area wrestlers will compete in State Qualifier

The Section V wrestling sectionals were held with both the Marcus Whitman/Penn Yan and Dundee teams each having wrestlers qualify for states at Brockport this Friday.
In the Wayne-Finger Lakes Conference, Marcus Whitman/Penn Yan competed in the East Division Sectionals held at Wayne High School, while the Dundee team competed in the West Division Sectionals held at Bolivar-Richburg High School. The qualifying wrestlers from each school now move on to the Section V State Qualifier held at Brockport College this Friday, Feb. 14.
In the East Division, the Whitman/Penn Yan team finished 6th overall with 132 points and had 8 wrestlers qualify for the State Qualifier:
David Young (106 lbs.) finished 6th, losing by decision to Ian Deaton of Dansville/Keshequa; Ayden Mowry (120 lbs.) finished 2nd, falling to Anthony Noto of Honeoye Falls-Lima; Chad Smith (152 lbs.) finished 6th, losing by default to Brennan Demersman of Hornell; Justin Smith (160 lbs.) finished 1st and was named Champion in a 9-1 major decision over Josh Armstrong of Wayne; Austin Smith (182 lbs.) finished 6th, falling to Hunter Cupp of Bath-Haverling; Colton Yerkes (195 lbs.) finished 4th, losing by decision to Brock Brazie of Bath-Haverling, while teammate Alec Benson finished 5th, winning by decision over Christian Weinman of Hornell; Mason Peterson (220 lbs.) finished 3rd, winning by decision over Jonah Pullen of Wayne.
In the West Division, Dundee finished 9th overall with 60 points and had 4 wrestlers qualify for the State Qualifier:
Michael Eaves (106 lbs.) finished 6th, falling to Aidan Wilmart of Arkport/Canaseraga; Kenneth Empson, Jr. (195 lbs.) finished 3rd, winning by a 14-2 major decision over Joseph Saxman of Alexander; Tate Hoyt (220 lbs.) finished 5th, falling to Landon Washburn of Perry; Travis Bailey (285 lbs.) finished 3rd, winning by fall over Loren Brown of Jasper-Troupsburg.
