Yates County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated a report from two bass fisherman Sunday, June 1 that they were threatened by someone with a gun while fishing south of Branchport on the West Branch of Keuka Lake.

According to Sheriff Ron Spike, the fishermen reported a male came out of a cottage with a long gun and made implied threats, saying they were fishing too close to his shoreline. They left the scene and called 911.

Yates County Sheriff’s Marine Patrol took their statements and filed a menacing complaint, but discovered the crime actually took place in Steuben County. The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office was contacted as well as New York State Police in Bath who handled the complaint.

According to Troopers, no arrest has yet been made, but the crime is being investigated by their Criminal Investigation Division, and charges may be pending.
