The 39th Annual Canandaigua Lake Trout Derby, scheduled for June 6 and 7, has officially been cancelled for 2020.  This difficult decision has resulted from multiple complications raised by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The annual Canandaigua Lake Trout Derby is held in order to raise funds for three local charities:  Camp Good Days & Special Times, Hospeace House, Inc., and Mercy Flight Central.  Over the last 38 years the derby has been able to donate over $224,000 in support of these non-profit organizations.   The derby has been generously supported by well over 50 local business sponsors who have donated services, money, space, gift certificates, and merchandise.   This support in coordination with derby entrance fees has historically raised enough funds to present each charity with several thousand dollars per year.

Derby Committee Chair, Lindsay Morrow, stated “We understand many of you may be disappointed with this news, and we share your frustration. However, please keep in mind that it is our charities that will suffer the greatest loss by our cancellation.  If you’re so inclined, please consider a donation to one or more of these worthy causes.”  The derby committee would also like to thank all the fishermen and women that participate in the derby year after year for their enthusiasm and continued support.

The derby committee looks forward to returning in 2021 and celebrating the derby’s 40th year anniversary.  Follow the Canandaigua Lake Trout Derby on Facebook or visit the website at www.CanandaiguaTroutDerby.org .
