Dobronova competes in New York Half Marathon

Rotarian exchange student Sona Dobronova from Slovakia who is attending the Penn Yan Academy completed the New York City Winter half marathon Feb. 27. In this 13 mile race, she placed second of 28 women racers under 19 years old. She placed 22 in a field of 699 women, and 176th in a racing field of 1432 entrants.

Sona competed in cross country competitions this fall and represented the Acadamy very well. She recently competed in the indoor triathlon in Canandaigua and won the overall competition. She will not be competing in track at the academy this spring but is preparing for 10-kilometer races in Washington D.C. and at a short race in Boston before the famous Boston Marathon.

Sona is one of over 25 foreign exchange students studying at American high schools in the Rochester-Finger Lakes area. After graduation, she intends to study sports medicine at one of many colleges in Europe.
