The Dallas Stars (2-0-0) finally opened their 2021 season with a two-game sweep of the Nashville Predators and now host the Detroit Red Wings (2-4-0) for a two-game set beginning Tuesday with an 8:30 p.m. ET puck drop. Below, we analyze the Red Wings-Stars NHL odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Red Wings at Stars: Odds, spread and lines

  • Money line : Red Wings +175 (bet $100 to win $175) | Stars -200 (bet $200 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS : Red Wings +1.5 (-165) | Stars -1.5 (+140)
  • Over/Under : 5 (O: -140 | U: +115)

Red Wings at Stars: Projected starting goalies

Thomas Greiss (0-3-0, .918 SV%, 2.74 GAA) vs. Anton Khudobin (2-0-0, .961 SV%, 1.00 GAA)

Greiss has taken three straight regulation losses but a lack of goal support deserves a large share of the blame. He has made a total of 90 saves in his three games with 8 goals allowed. Three of those goals came with the Wings shorthanded.

Khudobin has picked up right where he left off while guiding the Stars to the Stanley Cup Final in the summer. He has one shutout and has allowed a total of 2 goals on 51 shots faced. One of those goals was on a Predators power play.

Red Wings at Stars: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Stars 5, Red Wings 1

Money line (ML)

The STARS (-200) are worth the simple money line play, albeit at a chalkier price than we normally bet. Stars C Joe Pavelski and RW Alexander Radulov have shouldered the load left behind by the injured C Tyler Seguin (hip). LW Jamie Benn (lower body) could return to the lineup after sitting out Sunday's contest against Nashville.

Khudobin will continue to start in net in place of the injured Ben Bishop until the schedule gets busier or he shows some weakness. Dallas' strong defensive system can certainly help keep him afloat against a Wings team attempting 37.3 shots per game at 5-on-5, including blocked and missed shots.

The Stars already have eight power-play goals in just 12 opportunities with the man advantage. Detroit is 3-for-17 on the power play and has given up 5 power-play goals in 18 penalty-kill attempts.

Against the spread (ATS)

Get some better value with the STARS -1.5 (+140) to win by 2 or more goals. Three of the Red Wings' losses and each of their last two were by multi-goal margins. Dallas has already potted 7 goals in a game through two outings.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 5 (-140) and expect the Stars to do most of the work in getting this game Over the projected total.

The Red Wings are just 2-4 against the O/U but that's while scoring just 2.0 goals per game and allowing 3.3 per game.
