Castner, 91, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at the Keuka Comfort Home.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Janice was born July 18, 1931 to the late Lloyd Scott and Lucille Kindelberger Scott. She grew up in Ferguson Corners. In the 1950’s she worked at the Telephone Company in Penn Yan. Later she worked at Rainbow Junction for about 15 years. Janice was a devoted wife and mother.

Janice was an active member of the Yatesville United Methodist Church. She made the biscuits and gravy for their Chicken and Biscuit Dinners for many years, passing her skills on to some of the younger members. She had also made the custard for the church’s Homemade Ice Cream Socials.

Janice enjoyed crocheting, needle point and macramé. She belonged to a Home Demonstration group in the 1970’s. She also enjoyed flower gardening, feeding and watching the birds, and sitting outside in the sunshine. Janice was a former Secretary for the NY State Steam Engine Association.

She is survived by five children, Michael (Karen) Castner, Betty Jo Cason, Stephen (Betty) Castner, Barbara Burk and Lisa Castner; six grandchildren, Michael (Aubri Crawford) Castner, Ronnie Cason, Megan (Sean) Wakeman, Kaitlyn Castner, Charles Burk and Melissa Burk; and 12 great-grandchildren. Janice is also survived by one sister, Marian (Jim) Baird; one brother, Gilbert (Kathy) Scott; two sistersinlaw, Connie Scott and Cathy Scott; brother-in-law, Mark Kaspryzyk; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Janice was predeceased by her husband, Harlan Castner in 2011; sisters, Dorothy McCaig and Phyllis Jorgensen; and brothers, Gerald Scott, Lloyd Dan Scott and Lewis Don Scott.
