Sheriff Ron Spike and all the members of the Yates County Sheriff’s Office extended their thanks and best wishes to now retired First Sergeant Derek Blumbergs. Sgt. Blumbergs began his career with the YCSO in 1996 as a part time corrections officer, became a Deputy in 1999, and Sergeant in 2008. “Derek served our office and citizens with honor and distinction throughout his career, most recently receiving the American Legion, officer of the year,” says Sheriff Spike. “Sgt. Blumbergs leaves a legacy of service with a smile, always having a kind word even in times of trouble. Derek’s presence will be missed. We hope you enjoy a long and happy retirement with your family and future endeavors. Apsveicu un paldies! (Latvian for congratulations and thank you.)” Provided
