The New York State Fair was back in full force this year, welcoming fairgoers and exhibitors to be part of the fair’s many activities, events, and competitions. Running from Aug. 24 – Sept. 5, the New York State Fair provides opportunities for 4-H youth to showcase their talents, take part in leadership experiences, and gain knowledge and skills that will last a lifetime.

CHURCH BRIEFS

Our worship this past Sunday was based on the scripture from Luke 19: 1-10, the story of Zacchaeus, as read by Bruce Westerdahl. Zacchaeus was a wealthy tax collector from Jericho who is known for climbing a sycamore tree to see Jesus, and also for giving half of his wealth to the poor. Zacchaeus like most tax collectors was hated for his job, as most tax collectors were corrupt. Zacchaeus came down from the tree at Jesus’s calling, as Jesus told him he was going to visit his home. The crowd was surprised and sighed in that Jesus would visit the home of someone whom they considered to be a sinner. Pastor Sandi told us that we all have choices- we all should live in hope, and rise to face everything in life. We need to maintain our trust in God, despite fear and anxiety. God has a plan. After our church service, we had a lovely brunch and a beautiful cake. This was Pastor Sandi’s last service with us as our pastor. She has been with our church for 7 years. Our church will continue with retired pastors and lay leaders leading our Sunday services until a permanent pastor is appointed. Members have also filled needed positions and continue to step up so our missions and programs can continue to be fulfilled. We wish Pastor Sandi and Dave Perl the best in their endeavors and with more family time on the horizon. Don’t forget to let Joyce Wiedrich know if you can help with the bell ringing on Wednesday November 23rd, the day before Thanksgiving, for our chosen day of ringing the bells for Yates County Christmas. We always support this mission, which raises funds to help families for Christmas. This year the distribution program is 12/7 and 12/8 at the Benton Fire Hall, by pre-registration, for Yates County residents. This program helps make the season brighter for over 300 families and 700+ children from our county.
